A neurosurgical second opinion: when it helps and what to expect
If surgery has been recommended or you still have questions about your diagnosis and treatment, you can seek a second opinion from a neurosurgeon. This is an additional assessment of your situation by another specialist.
When a second opinion may help
You want to better understand your diagnosis.
Surgery has been recommended, and you want to discuss whether it is necessary and what alternatives may be available.
You have received different recommendations and want to understand them.
You still have questions about the next steps after treatment.
What to expect
The neurosurgeon will review your symptoms, medical documents and the examinations you provide. During the consultation, you can discuss the proposed treatment, ask questions and clarify possible next steps.
For a written consultation, you will receive an opinion based on the materials provided. In an online consultation, you will discuss your situation with the doctor by video or telephone.
A second opinion may confirm the original recommendations or suggest a different approach. If the information is insufficient, the doctor will explain what needs to be clarified and whether an in-person examination is required.
How to prepare
Send discharge summaries, medical reports and examination results. For MRI and CT, provide the complete examination or a QR code with its access code, if available.
State your main question: what exactly would you like to clarify about the diagnosis or proposed treatment?
How to request a consultation
Choose a written or online consultation in the “Services” section of the website.
A second opinion can help you make a more informed decision. Any changes to treatment should be agreed with the doctor responsible for your care.
